Mental Wellness Day At The K
May 7, 2018 (Overland Park, KS) – NAMI Johnson County announces the success of Mental Wellness Day at the Kansas City Royals Kauffman stadium. In honor of Mental Health Month, and in cooperation with NAMI Kansas and NAMI Missouri, this event provided a visible and positive reminder of the power of mental wellness to cure the negative stigma of mental illness.
Event organizer and mental wellness advocate, Ann Konz, was thrilled with the outcome of this awareness event. Konz stated, “We had over 400 people purchase baseball game tickets to promote mental wellness at the Kansas City Royals game against the Detroit Tigers on May 6, 2018. It was so amazing to see our t-shirts with our mental health green ribbon all over the K.”
In addition to a game ticket, attendees also received a T-Shirt, complimentary pretzels from Dot’s Pretzels, “Sesame Street Resilience Book” donated by the Kansas City Chamber and mental health information. Participants also received a chance to win Royals merchandize as well as signed baseballs by Alex Gordon, Jose Bonifacio, Ian Kennedy, Whit Merrifield, Drew Butera and Salvador Perez.
Rick Cagan, Executive Director of NAMI Kansas, said “NAMI Kansas is proud to partner with NAMI Johnson County on this event. This event is one of several ways we are celebrating our 30th Anniversary of serving Kansas. This event was an opportunity for hundreds of individuals and families to promote hope, renewal and recovery in Kansas.”
Sharon Manson, President of the NAMI Johnson County board said, “We want anyone in the Kansas City metro area to know that NAMI is here to provide support, education and advocacy for people affected by mental illness. The proceeds from the event will fund NAMI mental health support groups and educational programs.”
